We paid a little extra for this bed vs lesser expensive particle board beds, thinking it was built better or had more solid wood parts. I think its about the same as others. This bed is OK but in hindsight I should have found the least expensive particle board bed and assume it would not last more than one child or a move.
I have been putting this type of furniture together for over 10 years and I have to say these instructions were by far one of the clearest Ive seen.
The bed arrives in three boxes and prior to starting I made sure all pieces were present. I also seperated the pieces into two piles; stuff for the frame and stuff for the drawers - believe me, this made it a lot easier as I was working.
It took a little under 2 hours to complete and I only ran into one minor problem. While putting together the drawers I had problems sliding the bottom pieces into the groove thats in the drawer - this was easily solved with a little tap from my hammer - but it was frustrating at first because the grooves appeared to not line up correctly. Also the directions give you a time estimate - 122 minutes, thats about how long it took me.
As far as quality goes - it is great. The finish looks good, the drawers slide easily in and out, the planks that act as support for the mattress are sturdy.
I slept on it last night - I have a Tempurpedic foam mattress and I didnt use a box spring - and it was great.Great supoort and it didnt squeak or move around or anything.
All in all, I think it is definitely worth it.
Update: Ive had this bed frame for almost 2 years now. Some of the planks for started to crank along the edges - I am hoping I can just replace them from the hardware store.
I have to say I am very disappointed with the item..Fist off a piece of the board immediately broke, but instead of waiting for another board I made do..But not satisfied with the total package at all..First off if bed is just slightly moved, the drawers do not close properly..Second drawers started falling off of tracks and the bed has only been in use maybe a month..Product is not worth the money spent on..
I would highly recommend this product. I needed a lower bed frame to fit in my (slanted ceiling) room. Its perfect. LOTS of storage underneath, big drawers that easily slide in and out. However, it took about 3 HOURS to set up and I am a small woman. Some parts were really heavy and no matter if you are male or female, you will DEFINITELY need some help setting it up. Use an power drill too, I dont have one and if I did it probably would have taken half the time.
We bought the bed based on Zieglers modification recommendations. We bought the hardware needed ahead of time, while it was being shipped. The guy at the hardware store who was helping me find all the pieces said something on the order of If I had to do all these things, I would just buy a different bed. But it cost less than $15 for the parts and didnt take a whole lot extra time to do, and now the bed is super solid.
You dont need felt tape, just thick strips. The bed boards are the hardest part to get in.... You get half the boards in and then you bump into the frame and they all fall out, that sort of thing. It took (2) of us 3 hours or so to put everything, including mods, together. The instructions can be confusing, but once you get the hang of it, its not a big deal. Make sure you keep all the little pieces together! And be careful if youre going to try to get slats to go under the drawers - I had them cut at the store and they are just enough too small to not work.
Also the drawers are not as big as I expected, so look carefully at the picture to see where the bottom of the drawers are. But they provide a decent amount of extra storage space for sweaters, bed sheets, and things. The bed gets 4 stars because its an okay bed (3 stars) but becomes a great bed with mods (4 stars).
Delivery was per expectations. Assembly was straight-forward. Still trying to decide on the quality of XL twin mattress to buy. But even without the longer mattress, my extra tall daughter is happy with the greater leg room.
Id been searching furniture stores, and looking for a platform storage bed at a reasonable price. Lo and behold i came across this one, of course, with no reviews. Feeling a bit apprehensive, i searched for it without putting in white and found reviews for it in other colors. The reviews werent numerous or even great. There were a lot of complaints about it falling apart, hard to put together, etc. but i still ordered it. Im glad i did.
Putting the bed together is a bit time consuming if you dont own a hex drill bit, id advise purchasing a cheap one just for this job as it would probably cut down the time by 75%. I also suggest laying out all the pieces and hardware to make the job go quicker. The instructions were clear, the frame is sturdy once together. The only complaints i have is about the wooden slats that they give you to slide into the metal frame - they move way too much. In order to compensate for this, I made a trip to the local big box home store and purchases a sheet of 1/4 inch plywood and had them cut it down into three pieces and set that on top of the slats and using small nails to prevent any major moving. So far so good. The other issue is securing the drawer bottoms. It requires you to hammer a lot of little nails into a thin bottom. I did have quite a few nails never make it into the bottom, so i had to keep redoing it until it was correct.
Other than these two issues, everything else about the bed is great. The extra storage is perfect for what i want it for (socks, tshirts, sheets). If youre looking for a place to store bulky items, such as blankets, towels and anything really heavy, dont get this bed. If anything changes in a couple of months, ill update this....
My 17 year old daughter loves this bed. It is easy to put together and very attractive, Have not had one problem with it and the drawers are pretty spacious.
My son is in the 8th grade and 170 pounds. He needed a larger bed but his room was pretty small. He loves his bed and the room he has in it and the drawers are adequate to fit all of his night stand clothing. Therefore, nightstands gone, bigger bed added, all pjs, underwear, socks, sweats, and bedding are added to the drawers along with one dresser in the room with television, and he is as happy as can be. For the price, you cannot beat it.

Great bed with some effort

i like it
This bed is great. It fits perfectly in the room that I put it in. It was not hard to put together but I do hope that I dont have to move it!
