So this is a pressboard bed and its a lot of work to assemble, but for our needs, its just the right thing.
This will go in my sons basement room, and I got two of them. It took me about three hours to assemble each one. I do think that the instructions were very good, and have no problem with all that, but there are hundreds of pieces if you count all the screws, and part of why we got the storage beds is that its a tight space. So it was a little hard to maneuver the heavy bed around as I was putting it together.
I agree with what others have said:
1. Its all machined well, so that the pieces fit together as intended.
2. The bed slats run the long way, and are splintery plywood, and seem annoying on those levels, but they also seem to be functional.
3. The drawers glide smoothly, but the bottoms of the drawers are basically cardboard, so they cant hold heavy things. Ill add that the sides of the drawers are very lightweight, almost like balsa, so strange that way.
FWIW we are using it with box springs, just because we had them already. This makes the bed high, but we are tall (thus the need for the XL twin), and I think it will mitigate the issue of the weird slats.
One thing Id change is that the bed is a little wider than the mattress. I think it should be snugger. So you can see the crappy interior, for example.
Another thing to be aware of is that theres a number of edges of raw pressboard that are going to be in direct contact with your floor. I got chair glides to nail into the headboard and footboard so that I dont scratch the floor. I think this might be a good idea for carpeting as well, unless youre never going to move it (because it would snag on carpeting).
And yes to the screwdriver drill bit. A few of the screws would be hard to set by hand, I think.
Its not a fine piece of furniture, and it could be that my teen destroys it by bouncing around on it. But its what I expected it to be and Im happy with it.
Update: When I went to make the second bed, I had a couple of defective pieces (a drawer side where the wood was split and a nut that would not meet properly with its mate). I called the 800 number for , and they couldnt have been nicer about taking care of the problem. Wonderful customer service.
The assembly went well, the drawer glides are great but couldnt get overall assembly to square up properly. Added plywood base to support Sleep Comfort mattress.
This bed is great for a smaller room because it isnt much bigger than the mattress itself. It was easy to put together and took me (Im by no means construction savvy) about 3.5 hours. I definitely suggest investing in an electric screwdriver, it saved me a lot of time. Additionally if youre construction illiterate, there is a website to help you in the instructions.
The drawers are a good size, I fit about 9 pairs of heels in one of them and 6 sweatshirts in another thus far. Id definitely recommend this purchase.
Ive had this bed for a little over a year now and weve moved across the country with it. Its a great bed for the money. My husband is a big guy (about 255) and its held up through his weight. Also I was worried about the height, but its not low to the ground like some platform beds. It was time consuming putting it together, but all in all a good purchase.
Ive had this bed for a little over a year now. The drawers still all work though theyve been misalligned since the second month. The frame does not hold up well to sex, I routinely pop bolts which will no longer go back in. It was easy to assembly, and for the price I guess I cant complain, I just dont expect it will last a second year, which is a shame, because having all the storage space is pretty nice.
The drawers are HORRIBLE. Right out of the box my hubby and his friend took a full day to put together the base and drawers and assemble correctly. First thing was the middle drawer on the left top side didnt fit properly and the runner that came with the bed is missing the overhang piece on the runner to stop the runner wheel from falling off - so the drawer didnt sit on the runners correctly so you had to physically pull the drawer out (not on runners) to use that drawer and the one under it. thats one.
two is: every. single. one. of the drawer bottoms are not even particle board, they are glorified poster board, so if you put anything in there other than like... 5 pairs of socks or undies the thing bows and the bottom falls out, rendering the drawer useless.
we bought this bed for storage. the fact that the drawers dont work at all is very annoying.
i guess you get what you pay for.
we will have to find a way to either repair the bottoms of the drawers, or find a new bed, because its no longer functional At least the bed itself is comfy....
Buyer Beware:
I received 1 of 3 boxes of this purchase by UPS. I contacted UPS, and the vendor on the same day to inquire about the rest of the shipment (one section of a platform bed is useless). I tried to be patient, understanding and hoped the vendor, Vision Decor, could and would resolve it for me in a timely fashion. They didnt. They did NOTHING. I waited over a month to receive the remaining 2 boxes of this shipment. It wasnt until I filed a complaint with and made clear that no payment would be made toward this item until it was received, that something was FINALLY done to resolve the issue.
I WOULD NOT BUY FROM VISIONDECOR ever again for fear that they would, once again, provide such poor quality care in providing something that I paid for and waited for patiently. Their apology was weak at best and they offered no further credit or compensation for their lack of response and resolution. Just an oops, let me get it to you eventually - thats what it felt like and then oh, you filed a complaint and wont pay us, okay now we suddenly have purpose to resolve this .
The item itself is okay. Attractive, good storage space. I hope it will last. I dont expect any help should it fall apart within a year.
This product was purchased for a University dorm room. A twin size bed was the best fit to utilize the limited space in the room. A high quality mattress was purchased for this bed frame as there is no box spring required. Assembly was very straight forward. We are very pleased with this product. If you are looking to purchase a bed such as this, you cannot beat the price, quality and free delivery from .ca.
I bought this bed for my 10 year old son. It was just what I wanted. It was very easy to assemble ( I did it myself), and the directions were very clear. I love the six drawers underneath. It makes for plenty of space, although, I wouldnt put anything too heavy in there. The only complaint that I have is that this bed isnt the highest of quality, but for the price, I didnt expect it to be. I didnt buy the bookcase headboard because I thought it would make the bed stick out too far. Instead I bought a flat headboard from . It finishes the look without taking extra space. All in all, I am extremely happy with my purchase.
Good value and function. Do a web search for thorough tips on extras to pick up at the hardware store (L brackets and such), totally worth not creaking and feeling sturdy. still the corners are not 100% true and we squared everything as we built - go figure, but we are pleased with it. DEFINITELY worth it to spend an extra $40 on the extra screws and such. And be prepared for several hours of assembly, even if youre THAT good

Worth the extra $ to follow reinforcement advice
