This was a pain to build. The directions were sometimes easy to follow, sometimes not. My son and I took about 4.5 hours to complete the project, we had all the correct tools including a drill for faster screwing. But it was worth it. The end result is a great bed. Smooth operating , sturdy feel under the mattress, not too noisy during extracurricular activities.
I had to knock off a star because there are several long pieces of that stretch across the frame to create the platform for the mattress, and one of mine was completely rotted out in the package. You can see where someone in the factory tried to cover the rot or maybe save the by painting over it but it was clearly beyond saving. This was really the only manufacturer defect I found. Surprisingly, almost every predrilled hole actually lined up, which was a welcome relief.
