It actually looks great in person. My only warning is that the back doesn't look super finished (you can see zippers where the futon legs come out) so I wouldn't plan on positioning the couch to face any open part of the room. The cushions are very firm, but not actually uncomfortable. I usually equate firmness with discomfort, but I wouldn't say that of this couch. My bed hadn't arrived yet when I moved into my new place last week, but the couch had, so I ended up sleeping on this for two nights. The first night, I tried to sleep with the futon part down but actually found that uncomfortable, so I popped the back up and slept on it like a normal couch and found that more comfortable. I also slept with a folded-up 3-inch memory foam topper on top, which is something I happened to already have. I don't think I would have been able to sleep on it without that extra memory foam. It's comfortable, as-is, for sitting, but not for sleeping. Ultimately, for $290, I'm pleased with this purchase. I need the thing to last a year, and I expect it will. If you're looking for a long-term investment, I'm not sure I'd recommend this.
